POST /v1/tools/tape/searchTape

Locator / discovery tool. Full-text search across EVERY Tape workspace and app the user can see — finds WHERE apps and records live and returns ids, names, and titles interleaved by relevance. This is the tool for "find the record about Acme" or "which app holds invoices?" when you do not yet know the app. THIS IS A LOCATOR, NOT A SOURCE OF TRUTH: - Rows are previews with NO field values, no highlights, and no total. Do NOT answer questions about a record's contents from these rows — fetch the real data with the next-step tools. - Almost every search should be followed by a precise call. NEXT STEP (always follow up): - Read a found record's fields → tape_getRecord - Inspect a found app (fields, option ids) → tape_getApp - Filter/list records by field values inside ONE app → tape_filterRecords - Counts / sums / totals → tape_aggregateRecords WHEN TO USE THIS TOOL vs tape_filterRecords: - Use tape_searchTape when you do not know which app or workspace holds the thing, or the user gives you a keyword/name. - Use tape_filterRecords when you already know the app_id and want records by field values, dates, or categories. MATCHING AND COST: - Terms match as PREFIXES ("onboard" matches "onboarding") and EVERY term must match. Fewer, more distinctive terms find more. - Each page costs 50 Tape rate-limit credits regardless of size, so prefer a larger limit (up to 100) over paging. Default limit is 25. - Narrow with types (["app"] or ["record"]), workspace_ids, app_ids, created_by_user_ids, or date bounds to cut noise. PAGINATION: - A cursor continues the SAME search: pass only cursor — every other parameter is ignored on a cursor request (the response lists what was dropped). Page until has_more is false; there is no total count. - Cursors are single-use and expire: never re-send one you already used. To see a page again, start a fresh search. DATES: - created_at_from/to and last_modified_at_from/to accept YYYY-MM-DD or YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS in the user's timezone (UTC when no user timezone is known), or a signed relative token (-7d, -1m, +0d = today). Date-only _from means start of day, _to means end of day. Converted to UTC for Tape automatically. Set verbose=true only when you need the raw API payload.

Parameters

text	string	optional	Search text, 1–100 characters with at least one letter or digit. Terms match as prefixes and every term must match. Required unless cursor is given.
types	array	optional	Restrict result types: ["app"], ["record"], or both. Default: both, interleaved by relevance.
workspace_ids	array	optional	Only search these workspaces (at most 100 workspace_ids).
app_ids	array	optional	Only search these apps (at most 100 app_ids).
created_by_user_ids	array	optional	Only results created by these users (at most 100 user_ids; find ids with tape_searchUsers).
created_at_from	string	optional	Earliest creation time, inclusive. YYYY-MM-DD or YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS in the user timezone (date-only = 00:00:00), or a signed relative token like -7d. Converted to UTC before sending.
created_at_to	string	optional	Latest creation time, inclusive. YYYY-MM-DD or YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS in the user timezone (date-only = 23:59:59), or a signed relative token like +0d. Converted to UTC before sending.
last_modified_at_from	string	optional	Earliest last-modification time, inclusive. Same format as created_at_from. Records that were never edited have no modification time and drop out under any last_modified bound.
last_modified_at_to	string	optional	Latest last-modification time, inclusive. Same format as created_at_to. Records that were never edited have no modification time and drop out under any last_modified bound.
sort_by	string	optional	Sort order: ranking_score (default, best match first), created_on, or last_modified_on. Values: ranking_score, created_on, last_modified_on
sort_desc	boolean	optional	Sort descending (default: true). Set false for oldest-first when sorting by a date.
limit	number	optional	Results per page, 1–100 (default 25). Every page costs 50 credits, so prefer one large page over several small ones.
cursor	string	optional	Continuation cursor from a previous response. Pass it ALONE — on a cursor request every other parameter is ignored and the original search continues. Each cursor works once and may expire; to re-fetch a page, start a fresh search.
